Presentation Overview
Approximately 0.9% of Australians are trans or gender diverse, and the first generation to use long-term gender-affirming hormone therapy is now reaching an age at which menopause clinicians will see them. Yet there is still no trans-specific definition of menopause, no applicable staging system, and no guideline that addresses all groups.
Practical guidance will address trans community perspectives of menopause, hormone continuation in older age, cardiovascular risk assessment where no validated calculator exists, bone health after gonadectomy, and management of vasomotor and genitourinary symptoms. Clinicians who manage menopause already hold most of the necessary expertise and this session will cover strategies for optimising care in this population.
