Dr. Hodis is the Harry J. Bauer and Dorothy Bauer Rawlins Professor of Cardiology, Professor of Medicine and Population and Public Health Sciences in the School of Medicine, Professor of Molecular Pharmacology and Toxicology in the School of Pharmacy and Director of the Atherosclerosis Research Unit at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California.
Dr. Hodis has been continuously funded by the NIH for 30 years with his work integrating translational research, biomedical engineering and integrative biology/medicine and spanning basic, clinical and genetic investigation.
Dr. Hodis’ overarching research interest is in vascular disease and atherobiology with investigative pursuits to understand the biology and genetics of the etiology and progression of these disease processes including prevention and intervention. In addition, his research interests include development and application of imaging and measurement tools for the assessment, screening, prevention and treatment of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease.

Dr. Hodis’ Women’s Health Research Track initiated in 1992 and he has been the Principal Investigator of several studies focused on women’s health issues including cardiovascular disease, cognition, bone health, breast cancer and menopausal symptoms, the Estrogen in the Prevention of Atherosclerosis Trial (EPAT), the Women’s Estrogen-progestin Lipid-Lowering Hormone Atherosclerosis Regression Trial (WELL-HART), the Women’s Isoflavone Soy Health (WISH) trial and the Early versus Late Intervention Trial with Estradiol (ELITE) and he was the Director of the Core Imaging and Reading Center for the primary trial end point for the Kronos Early Estrogen Prevention Study (KEEPS).
Dr. Hodis has been the recipient of numerous awards including Outstanding Teaching Awards, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Inventions and Contributions Board Space Act Award and induction into the Association of American Physicians (AAP). In recognition of his body of research in women’s health, Dr. Hodis is recipient of the NAMS Thomas Clarkson Outstanding Clinical and Basic Science Research Award.
Dr. Hodis has served on dissertation committees and mentored more than 60 MD/PhD, PhD and master level graduate students, delivered more than 300 invited presentations worldwide and authored or co-authored more than 250 original scientific publications.
